American and European Art glass - Victorian and Art Nouveau to Contemporary ![]() About
Me
Welcome
to my
Web site!
Let me tell you a bit about myself. I've been collecting art glass for well over 10 years. I started off collecting Carder era Steuben and Art Nouveau era Loetz. As my obsession grew, so did my interests and collection. In 1996 I started buying and selling on eBay, it was then that I also started my former web site, Severn's Art Glass, where I sold many hard to find art glass rarities. I also sourced local private collections, antique shops, and auctions. As my knowledge grew, I was involved in many glass events including being a guest speaker at the 1999 Chico State University Glass Symposium. Many special pieces from my glass collection are featured in Art Glass books, including "Collectible Glass Rose Bowls" by Johanna Billings and "Peachblow Glass: Collector's Identification & Price Guide" also by Johanna Billings. I was the Bohemian Glass Advisor to Lee Marple in his book, "Phoenix Art Glass: An Identification and Value Guide" and have contributed to several glass articles in magazines, Antiques Road show, and various Internet Art Glass articles. I've traveled the U.S going to many of the foremost Art Glass Museums including the Rockwell Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, Henry Ford Museum (yes they have a wonderful collection of glass, including premium Loetz pieces that were purchased when new by the Museum), Wheaton Museum of American Glass (spectacular collection of Durand, as well as all major U.S. Victorian glass makers), Museum of American Glass - Millville, NJ, Smithsonian, DC, and many smaller glass museum exhibits and exhibitions, as well as various glass club exhibitions. I've also traveled Europe, and one of my favorite travel events is glass research and visiting some of the finest art glass museums in the world including: Musee de l'Ecole de Nancy / School of Nancy - Nancy FR Daum Collection at the Musee des Beaux-Arts Nancy - Nancy FR Musee Historique Lorrain - Nancy FR Louvre Museum - Paris FR Musée d'Orsay - Paris FR Baccarat Museum - Paris FR National Gallery - Prague, CZ Harrach Museum - Harrachov, CZ Moser Factory and Glass Museum - Karlsbad, CZ Passauer Glasmuseum - Passau, GR Glass and Porcelain Museum - Dresden Castle - Dresden, GR Rijksmuseum - Amsterdam, Holland I've also visited many smaller museums, many of which have small art glass collections of one kind or another (usually due to local interest or involvement), exhibitions, and some outstanding private collections. I've dealt with several of the larger (and smaller) auction houses, such as Skinners, J.D. Julia, Earlys, etc., both buying and selling. I've also worked with several certified antique appraisers in a consultative capacity to assess their clients high end art glass for identification and insurance purposes. I also buy glass! If you have glass to sell it's easy! Email me (click email icon below) a picture of the top, sides, and base of the article for sale, along with a description and your price. If I accept the offer, I'll contact you with instructions to ship the piece to me, and once I've received the piece, and verified it's condition , I'll send you a check for your item. Remember, Antique glass is not only fun to collect and a great investment, but it also makes a fantastic gift too!
