| Louis Comfort Tiffany Special Order Vase
Here's a beautifully decorated Louis Comfort Tiffany
gold Favrile vase with green pulled tadpoles and white opaque glass
threading.
Absolutely mint condition, fantastic coloring on the gold Favrile, truly an amazing
and rare L.C.T. vase.
The tadpoles alternate around the vase (there
are six total) with every other one starting 1/3 the way down, with
the tail extending to the pontil, and then every other one starting
towards the neck of the vase, with the tail ending on the last line
of opaque white threading. A very unusual Tiffany vase for
sure. It's signed
"o4063" as seen in the picture above, indicating that it's a special
order piece (as indicated by the letter o (not zero), making it a
much less common piece, as it's a one of a kind. We typically
see L.C.T. tad pole vases, drinking vessels, decanters, etc., in
gold Favrile with gold Favrile tad poles, yet this one has
iridescent green tadpoles applied on a gold Favrile vase with white
opaque glass threading.
For similar Tiffany pieces, see "Behind the
Scenes of Tiffany Glassmaking: The Nash Notebooks" page 223, second
row, fourth item. It's interesting to note that they indicate that
the pages shown from this catalog were made for the German market.
Also see "Tiffany Favrile Art Glass" by Moise S. Steeg which shows
several tadpole pieces, but only a few that incorporate the tadpoles
and threading. Take a look at page 9, the top picture of the lily
pad piece. Also page 126 has a gold Favrile threaded glass with
similar tadpoles (and apparently alternating tail lengths).
Please rest assured this piece is guaranteed
to be correct and an authentic piece of Louis Comfort Tiffany Glass
(buyers please be careful, as there are frequently L.C.T forgeries
on eBay). |
