Glass Notes!

Circa 1893 Loetz Glass

Much is documented on post-1900 Loetz, yet, unfortunately very little is documented about Loetz pre-1900 production.

Loetz made some of the finest Victorian era glass in the world, this should be an important deep dive research area!

  1. Brian, Nice work on your blog. You are right that the Loetz Victorian era needs more research. I love your Alpenrot examples shown here. I keep thinking that because I live in Illinois and these were exhibited at the 1892 Columbian World’s Expositon in Chicago that I should be able to find a treasure trove of these. But not so! But I will keep looking!

    • Thank you Deb. Loetz also did a Bronce Glatt vase with a cameo of Columbus on it, typically marked Columbus on the base, which was done specifically for the Columbian World’s Exposition in Chicago. You’d think there would be tons of them, as they sold tons of Columbian World’s Exposition souvenirs, but I’ve only seen one for sale in 20 years of collecting.

  2. Hi Brian,
I have a vase in this type grouping of Loetz. How do you post a picture to your Blog? I also have a Fritz Heckert rose bowl with
    the swans. Thanks. Norma

  3. Hi Norma,
I don’t believe it’ll allow you to post a photo. If you want to email them to me, I’d be happy to see them. Thanks for stopping by.
